Current Event 1- The story of Quaden Bayles

Imagine been a mother, who just got off from work and went to pick up her son from school. Now imagine, your 9 years old son crying in the car and all he asks of you, is to give him a knife so that he can kills himself.

In 2020, a video surfaced on social media of a mother videotaping her 9 years old son crying and asking for a knife so that he could kill himself because of the way he was bullied at school. Within the video, Yarraka Bayles explains to the viewers that her son was born with a medical condition called dwarfism and because he is also a descendent from an Australian aboriginal group, he is constantly made fun of. In the video, she goes on explaining that what her son is experiencing isn’t only bullying but also racism. In the video she also mentions that she has talk to the school several times, but no action has been taken.

From this video, we can clearly see the effects bullying has on both the mind and body. It shows what children and people are willing to do and say in order to end their suffering. As you are witnessing from the video, the broker eyes and voices of Quaden and his mother tells what power bulling has over you. But what is even worst and heartbroken, is to witness a 9 years old kid crying and asking to his mother for a knife to kill himself.  No one at that age or in general should be treated or made fun of because of the difference he has. In most cases, parents sometimes are not even aware that their children get bullied in school, because children do not wish their families to know and they are afraid to speak up. In most cases, parents will know when it’s too late. This type of bulling even though is face to face bulling, it is still a form of bullying that has the power to hurt and make someone suffer.
